  • I Sure Don’t Feel Like a Priest

This Wednesday night in the YouthRoom, Drew will be teaching out of 1 Peter 2:1-12. It’s gonna be freezing cold outside, so plan on coming at 6pm to get some awesome, hot home-cooking down stairs — and then heading up to the YouthRoom at 7pm for some awesome, soul-stirring teaching! This week we’ll find out how God describes YOU in the Bible, how we are called to respond because of it, and we’ll learn how to see the things that don’t define a life renewed by Jesus Christ.

Plus, if you didn’t get your 30-Hour Famine info and fundraising packet last week, you can pick it up Wednesday night. And we’ll be watching a promo video to get us pumped for the 30-hours of fasting and prayer! It’s going to be thebomb.com/awesome.

    Be there.

  • Giving to People “Where they Stand”

If you’re ever looking for some good reading choices to strengthen your faith and encourage your Christian walk, picking up a good Christian biography is definitely a good bet. There are a host of good biographies out there on missionaries, preachers, Christian farmers – soldiers – and even Christian home-makers. John Piper even does a series of sermons that are Christian biographies that are absolutely amazing.

In a biography on the famous Christian writer and literary critic G.K. Chesterton, I found an awesome testimony on the kind of “givers” we should be for the Lord Jesus Christ. It ties in perfectly with the very thing our pastor is talking about this week on his blog. The author writes this about how Chesterton gives money to beggars:

“He seems so frivolous and so careless, but he gives money to beggars, not friviously or carelessly, but because he believes in giving money to beggars, and giving it to them “where they stand”. He says he knows perfectly well all the arguments against giving money to beggars. But he finds those to be precisely the arguments for giving money to them. If beggars are lazy or deceptive or wanting a drink, he knows only too well his own lack of motivation, his own dishonesty, his own thirst. He doesn’t believe in “scientific charity” because that is too easy, as easy as writing a check. He believes in “promiscuous charity” because that is really difficult. “It means the most dark and terrible of all human actions — talking to a man. In fact, I know of nothing more difficult than really talking to the poor men we meet.” He says that if we really believed in democracy, we would not be debating about what we should do with the poor; the poor would be debating about what to do with us.” – from Common Sense 101: Lessons from G.K. Chesterton, by Dale Ahlquist

  • DNow “Resolved” Recap

This year’s Disciple Now officially came to an end yesterday morning. Not only did the 3 inches of snow not stop us, it was just another addition to an absolutely awesome weekend! Our Youth group turned out in force on Friday afternoon for a DNow weekend that showed us that God is resolved to save sinners by the person and work of Jesus Christ, and that because of the power of God’s spirit within us, Christians can and should be resolved to follow Him with all our hearts.

The Lord showed himself gracious yet again with providing amazing small group leaders to lead the small group Bible studies at our host homes, and powerful teaching and preaching by our weekend’s speakers. Our worship time with the band was convicting and humbling as we considered that “What we proclaim is not ourselves”, and our service opportunity at the homeless shelter was a great opportunity to put that to practice. Many youth shared their excitement over what God had begun to do in their hearts this weekend, and all of us were encouraged to see the power of God at work through the study of His Word.

The good news for us is that God not only works on DNow weekends (of course), but has been at work from eternity past, beginning, continuing, and eventually finishing the good work that he has purposed to do in us. There is nothing more awesome than a God like our God, and there is no hope like the hope that He has given us in Jesus Christ. “Thank you Lord, that you resolved to save sinners at your cross. Amen.”

  • The 7 Mile Truth

You see a lot of stuff on television about what people “really” think happened to Jesus when he was crucified. For people who haven’t been made right with God by the forgiveness of their sins through Jesus’ blood, believing that a man named Jesus Christ could really rise up out of the dead 3 days after he was nailed to a cross sounds crazy. But there’s a few big problems: THERE REALLY WAS A MAN NAMED JESUS CHRIST, AND HE REALLY WAS CRUCIFIED FOR OUR SIN, AND HE REALLY DID RISE UP FROM THE GRAVE 3 DAYS LATER. Not even the History Channel could make this up…

Check out this clip from a sermon given by an awesome preacher named Matt Chandler about the 7 Mile Truth:

  • Galatians 2:20

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

that could be thrown away if desiring to

    4. Shorts that are made out of fairly sturdy material (ex. Khaki shorts). Thin shorts such as mesh shorts and cheerleading shorts will not be appropriate for climbing activities that require a harness.

    8. Females MUST wear shorts over their swimsuits.
    9. We strongly recommend that you bring a pair of Tevas or athletic sandals and/or water shoes. Our lakes have sharp rocks that may cut your feet.
